A 16-year-old boy and another teen got a cab at Ohio and Heil avenues just before 10 p.m. Thursday
TRENTON - Trenton police arrested one teen and are looking for another in the armed robbery of a taxi driver Thursday, authorities said.
A 16-year-old boy and another teen got a cab at Ohio and Heil avenues just before 10 p.m. Thursday. The pair asked the driver to pick up a third person several blocks away on Ohio Avenue, Lt. Stephen Varn said.
While driving, the 16-year-old held a handgun to the head of the driver and demanded money, Varn said.
The driver handed over an undisclosed amount of cash and the two teens ran out of the cab, Varn said.
Trenton police Detective Richardo Ramos investigated, developed a suspect and gave that information to Street Crimes detectives, who arrived at the 16-year-old's house on Cain Avenue around 11 p.m. He was arrested without incident, Varn said.
Police also found a handgun in the house. It was a BB gun, Varn said.
The teen was arrested and charged with robbery. He was taken to the Middlesex County Youth Detention center, Varn said.
A search continues for the second teen, believed to be about 15 years old, Varn said.
