Robert Brandbergh, 49, was charged with driving while intoxicated, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to report an accident, failure to observe a signal, and two counts each of reckless and careless driving, Lt. Christopher Doyle said.

Witnesses said Brandbergh sped through a Route 29 traffic light, hitting a woman driving a black Hyundai. The woman suffered minor injuries and was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Hamilton, where she was treated and later released, Doyle said.

Brandbergh continued to drive following the collision. A witness followed and called the police while tracking Brandberg for several blocks until police caught up at Route 1 and Perry Street, Doyle said.

Police tried to stop Brandbergh, who swerved several times and hit a guardrail while he ignored police attempts to stop him until he tried to park on Plum Street, Doyle said.
