Jamar Leonard, 31, faces aggravated assault, weapons and child endangerment charges
TRENTON -- A Trenton man, who eluded police for more than two months after allegedly firing a shot into a house where there was a 11/2 year old, was arrested Sunday.
Jamar Leonard, 31, was charged with aggravated assault, possession of a handgun, unlawful possession of a weapon and child endangerment for the July 2 incident.
Officers were patrolling in the area of Ferry and Lamberton streets around 3:45 a.m. when they saw a man, later identified as Leonard, leave a house and point in the direction of the house once he got to his car, said Lt. Stephen Varn.
The officers then heard a gunshot and saw a muzzle flash, but Leonard jumped into the car and fled, Varn said. An alert was broadcast over the police radio, but officers were unsuccessful in finding him.
A woman inside the house later told police that she and Leonard were having an argument when she told him to leave. After he left, he fired the shot toward the house, though no injuries were reported.
A warrant was issued for Leonard's arrest and he was taken into custody early Sunday on the 100 block of Passaic Street.
