Tyrawn Carter, 28, Douglas Wolfe, 35, Anthony Pittman, 37, and Jesus Bazan, 25, face weapon charges
TRENTON -- At least four guns, including one stolen from Atlanta, Ga., were taken off the streets this weekend.
The arrests came during the same weekend that a spate of shootings and one stabbing left three dead and four wounded.
Tyrawn Carter, 28, was arrested around 8 a.m. Friday after police identified him as the man a caller said pulled a gun on him in the area of Chambers Street and Walnut Avenue, said Lt. Stephen Varn.
Police went to the 200 block of Walnut Avenue and saw Carter, who matched the description of the suspect. When officers approached, he appeared to toss something in the front yard of a house, Varn said. Police recovered the handgun and placed Carter under arrest.
He faces aggravated assault with a gun, unlawful possession of a handgun, possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose and certain persons not to have a weapon. He also had four warrants totaling $3,500.
Douglas Wolfe, 35, is facing charges after police saw him throw a backpack with a gun inside. Police were called to the area of Old Rose Street and Holland Avenue around 9:07 a.m. Friday on a report of a man with a gun, Varn said.
A resident told the arriving officers that he saw a man, later identified as Wolfe, put a handgun in his backpack and walk along the railroad track beds. After noticing the police, Wolfe threw the bag over his head into dense brush, Varn said. Officers arrested him and retrieved the bag that was found to have a stolen semi-automatic handgun from Atlanta, Ga. Wolfe also had eight warrants totaling $1,712.
He faces unlawful possession of a handgun, certain persons not to have a weapon, receiving stolen property, resisting arrest and obstruction of the administration of law.
Anthony Pittman, 37, was arrested around 10:33 p.m. Friday after Street Crime Unit detectives in a passing patrol car saw him pull a gun from his waistband, Varn said.
The detectives were driving behind another unmarked police car when they saw Pittman outside talking to someone inside a car, Varn said. When Pittman noticed the first car but not the second, he drew a gun from his waistband and put it in his pocket before quickly walking away. The detectives took Pittman by surprise, arresting him and seizing a loaded handgun, Varn said.
He was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, certain persons not to have a weapon and obstruction of the law. The car passenger, identified as 30-year-old Quasaan Bethea, was charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
Jesus Bazan, 25, is facing charges he fired a sawed-off shotgun at two people on the 400 block of Emory Avenue early Sunday, Varn said.
Street Crime Unit detectives responding to a report of shots fired around 2:05 a.m. saw Bazan, who matched the description of the suspect, toss the shotgun and run. Following a brief struggle, he was taken into custody. Varn said the two people were arguing when Bazan emerged from an alleyway and fired the gun. No one was hit, but a house was struck.
Bazan was charged with aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a sawed-off shotgun, certain persons not to have a weapon, hindering apprehension, resisting arrest and obstruction of the administration of law.
