Jarett Darby charged with assault and weapons offenses after cops find him leaving scene of shooting on Virginia Avenue.
TRENTON -- A Hamilton resident is facing assault and weapons possession charges after a shooting in Trenton early Wednesday that left a 25-year-old man in critical condition, police said.
Jarett Darby, 25, of Hamilton.Officers on patrol heard gun shots at around 1 a.m. and saw a car pulling out of a parking spot on Virginia Avenue, police spokesman Lt. Stephen Varn said.
The officers saw the driver, Jarett Darby, 24, making suspicious movements, Varn said. Police pulled him from the car and found a hand gun, Varn said.
The officers heard cries for help coming from Liberty Street and found a man with multiple gunshot wounds, Varn said.
The 25-year-old Hamilton man underwent emergency surgery and is in critical but stable condition, Varn said.
Darby was charged with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a weapon and certain persons charges. The incident is still under investigation.
