TRENTON - A routine police training session three weeks ago resulted in an officer saving a 72-year-old's life Thursday, according to a statement from the Mercer County Sheriff's Office.

Conrade Nyekan, an officer with the sheriff's department, was working security at Capital Health Regional Medical Center in Trenton around 10 p.m. Thursday night when a driver pulled up to the hospital asking for assistance.

A 72-year-old woman in the passenger's seat was unresponsive, not breathing and was having a cardiac emergency, the statement said.

Nyekan, who had just undergone routine CPR training a few weeks earlier, leapt into action.

He started administering CPR and continued until hospital workers were able to get to the scene, according to the statement.

The woman regained consciousness but was listed in critical condition Friday.
