The crash occurred in the Egg Harbor Township section of the Garden State Parkway Friday afternoon.
EGG HARBOR TWP. -- New Jersey State Police identified the man involved in a fatal crash that shut down a section of the Garden State Parkway as a Trenton resident.
Bobby Cardona, 46, of Trenton, was driving a 2007 Ford Econoline van northbound on the Garden State Parkway around mile marker 33 when he lost control of the van. Authorities were dispatched to the accident Friday at 4:15 p.m., according to SFC Gregory Williams.
Possible overdose causes crash, cops say
The van drove off the side of the road and struck a tree. Cardona sustained serious injuries and was taken to Shore Memorial Hospital in Somers Point. He was pronounced dead at the hospital at 5 p.m.
New Jersey State Police closed down a section of the Garden State Parkway for half an hour during the investigation.
Authorities do not expect drugs or alcohol to be a factor in the crash at this time, Williams said. At the time of the crash, the roadway was wet due to rainfall.
