Trenton man charged with gun possession after brief chase

Joshua McCray ran from police who approached him, throwing a gun along the way

TRENTON - A Trenton man was arrested and charged with gun and drug possession after leading police on a brief chase, authorities said Monday.

Joshua McCray, 28, became nervous when police approached him on the 200 block of Walnut Avenue around 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Lt. Stephen Varn said.

McCray, clutching the side of his sweatpants, began running as police neared. He threw a semi-automatic handgun during the chase, Varn said.

McCray was caught and forced to the ground at gunpoint on the 100 block of Walnut Avenue, Varn said.

McCray was searched and police found $81 in cash, 3 bullets, five small baggies of marijuana and 21 xanax pills and 11 unidentified pills, Varn said.

McCray was charged on weapons and drug possession offenses. His bail was set at $25,000, according to police records.
