TRENTON - A Trenton woman was arrested and charged with robbery after she stole a wallet from an 81-year-old woman, police said Monday.
Maria Rein, 53, was charged with robbery and an outstanding Princeton warrant shortly after noon Saturday when police caught her on the 200 block of Academy Street, Lt. Stephen Varn said.
The 81-year-old had left a pharmacy near the intersection of East Front and Montgomery streets when a woman, later identified as Rein, approached her and asked for money, Varn said.
The woman refused. Rein continued to walk with the woman, asking for money, Varn said, before she ripped off the woman's purse and ran off with her wallet.
A nearby witness showed officers where Rein ran and police were able to find the wallet and Rein, who was arrested and charged, Varn said.
Rein was jailed in lieu of $60,000 bail, according to police records.
