ROBBINSVILLE -- A former Hightstown police officer was charged with drunken driving and several other offenses after crashing his car last week, township police said.

Shortly before police arrested Moore, Robbinsville police received information from Allentown police of an erratic driver headed toward Robbinsville, police said.

Patrolman Michael Farrell stopped More at about 3 p.m. and found he had struck a mailbox and allegedly left the scene of the crash, police said.

Farrell charged Moore with drunken driving, reckless driving, failure to report an accident, leaving the scene of an accident and other motor-vehicle offenses, including failure to use a hands-free device while driving.

Moore was allowed to retire from the Hightstown police force in 2010 after his involvement in a domestic incident that made him ineligible for employment on the police force.
