Police said they received a report of shots fired at about 4:40 p.m. in the 600 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

TRENTON -- A male shot in the area of Martin Luther King Jr. Park in North Trenton Wednesday evening died a short time later at a city hospital, Trenton police said.

Police said they received a report of shots fired at about 4:40 p.m. in the 600 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

A short time later, patrol officers found a male in the area suffering from gunshot wounds, police said.

A city ambulance rushed the male to Capital Health Regional Medical Center in Trenton, where he was pronounced dead a short time later, police said.

Investigators had an area of the park cordoned off Wednesday near Proctor Avenue.

A police spokesman did not have additional details about the victim's identity, age or what may have led to his killing.

Early Tuesday, at about 6:15 a.m., police found the body of 19-year-old Elvin Kimble behind a house on Division Street in the Chambersburg neighborhood.

Authorities suspect Kimble was wounded during a 12:40 a.m. shooting nearby at Chestnut Avenue and Rusling Street and ran about a half a block away, where he collapsed and died.

A gun was found near Kimble's body, police said.

Authorities had not announced any arrests or charges in Kimble's death Wednesday.

Kimble's death had been the first homicide in Trenton in two months.

Both homicides are under investigation by the Mercer County Homicide Task Force.
