The fire at an abandoned house on the 900 block of Genesee Street broke out around 6:45 p.m. and injured a 54-year-old man

TRENTON - A Trenton fire that hospitalized one and injured a firefighter appears to have started in the electrical main of the house, police said Monday.

The fire at an abandoned house on the 900 block of Genesee Street broke out around 6:45 p.m. and injured a 54-year-old man who was sleeping on the second floor of the house when the smell of smoke woke him, Lt. Christopher Doyle said.

The man was taken to St. Barnabas Medical Center for treatment for smoke inhalation, Doyle said.

The man's identity was not released and his condition was not immediately available.

A firefighter fell through the floor of the house and was sent to St. Francis Medical Center in Trenton for minor injuries and was released later Sunday night, officials have said.

The Mercer County Prosecutor's Office, Trenton police detectives and the Trenton Fire Marshal Unit are investigating.
