The driver, a 43-year-old male, told police he picked up a man and a woman up at a pizzeria in Hightstown and drove them to Pennington Avenue.

When the driver asked for the $30 payment, the couple provided a credit card, which was declined, police said.

When the driver said the card was declined, the male held a knife to the cab driver's neck and demanded money, and the credit card, police said.

The male grabbed the credit card, but the driver did not hand over any cash.

The man and woman fled on foot and the driver was not injured, police said.

The suspects were described a white male, 18 to 25 years old, 5-feet 8-inches tall who wore a gray jacket, blue jeans and sneakers with a white stripe.

The female was described as a white female, 35 to 45 years old, 5 feet 5 inches tall who weighed about 120 pounds who wore a gray jacket and black pants.

City detectives will be visiting the Hightstown pizzeria and Pennington Avenue in search of surveillance footage, police said.
