NEWARK - A 30-year-old Lawrence man was arrested and charged Tuesday with producing and receiving child pornography after he used a Facebook page to solicit and receive sexually explicit pictures and movies of an underage girl, authorities said.
(File photo)Curtis E. Thompson, was charged with a single count each of producing and receiving child pornography. He was scheduled Tuesday afternoon to appear before U.S. Magistrate Judge Leda Dunn Wettre, sitting in Newark, according to a statement from the U.S. Attorney's Office.
Thompson in April used a Facebook account under the name Frank Lucas to become friends with the victim, a girl under the age of 18, the statement said.
The girl on June 11 told Thompson she was underage. Thompson persuaded the girl to record videos her and others engaging in sexually explicit conduct and send them to him, the statement said.
Thompson also convinced the girl to allow him to watch her in sex acts in real time through a video streaming service, the statement said.
Thompson also paid the girl for more videos of her and others in exchange for money he wired through MoneyGram. Payments were sent on June 11, 12 and 17, the statement said.
The production of child pornography charge carries a maximum sentence of 30 years in prison, a mandatory minimum penalty of 15 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. The receiving child pornography charge carries a mandatory minimum sentence of five years and a maximum of 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine, the statement said.
