LAWRENCE-- Rider University upperclassmen serving as Bronc Buddies, assisted by some faculty and staff, took new arrivals' belongings from curbside to dorm room in a cheerful and welcoming manner that would make staff at a 5-star hotel jealous.

On a day of idyllic weather conditions 900 new Rider University students arrived from states as far away as Alaska, California and Texas and many international students from China, Saudi Arabia, Austria, Russia and other countries.

In keeping with the national trend, a larger percentage of new students are women while a large proportion of the new students are from the New Jersey.

After settling in, students and their families were invited to attend an outdoor lunch on the campus mall at the New Student and Family Food Fest starting at 11 a.m. Later in the evening, students would have the chance to dine with the president and representatives of the Student Government Association, among other events.

After more introductory events and activities on Monday and Tuesday, including a New Student Convocation, workshops, the Rider Rumble and an appearance by comedian Butch Bradley, day and evening classes begin Wednesday, September 9.

Rider's new Rider University's new President Gregory G. Dell'Omo was also on hand Sunday morning to help welcome the new arrivals.
