TRENTON - A Trenton man was charged with assault by auto after a two-car collision that hospitalized two people and left both cars with heavy damage, police said Monday.
Osmar Chanquin, 34, was driving a white Volkswagon Jetta on Centre Street shortly before 11 p.m. Saturday when he collided with a beige Honda turning onto Centre near the intersection with Federal Street, Lt. Stephen Varn said.
Chanquin was charged with driving while intoxicated, assault by auto and several traffic violations, Varn said.
Both cars suffered heavy damage. The driver of the Honda, Rush Marzah, 22, also was arrested on an outstanding warrant and for being an unlicensed driver, Varn said.
A 22-year-old man who was a rear-seat passenger in the Honda was taken to Capital Health Regional Medical Center in Trenton for treatment of a large cut above his eye. A front seat passenger in the Honda did not complain of pain, Varn said.
