Today's letters: sign up for a library card now - you won't regret it & a few traffic solutions
As students head back to school this September, The Mercer County Library System wants to make sure that children have the most important school supply of all - a library card.
Owning a library card provides students with the resources they need to compete academically. The Library provides free access to databases of news articles, encyclopedias and test preparation materials (accessible from home), as well as homework help and resources. In addition, The Mercer County Library System is an easy access point for free internet. Since a majority of school assignments now require computer use, this is an important resource for families without computer access at home.
The Library provides all types of students with the tools they need to success. Libraries also provide young readers with exciting and engaging programs that make learning fun. It is for these reasons that now more than ever, a library card is the most important school supply of all. We encourage all parents to bring their children to their local library and sign upStop by your local library and sign up!

It is not rocket science to reduce travel time and the expense of traffic delay: Reduce the number of "no right on red" signs. They are overused and in most cases not necessary. Zoning should be changed to allow more latitude in home-office use. The criteria are too restricting.
Also, allow village nodes where retail, business and residential are integrated. This would reduce travel distances and create a more user friendly community layout. Use smart traffic signals. When I visit California I am impressed when I pull up to a red signal that then changes to green if there is no cross traffic. Why sit at a red light if there is no cross traffic? All we need to do is to focus on the goal at every level of government.
