Firefighters were dispatched to the school shorty before 1 p.m. Nobody was taken to the hospital.

HAMILTON -- Township firefighters evacuated Nottingham High School Thursday when a student complained of an odor in the school, and called one of her parents.

Firefighters were dispatched to the school shorty before 1 p.m., and found school in session, so they had it emptied as a precaution, Hamilton Fire District 2 Chief Chris Tozzi said.

Tozzi said there was a noxious smell and firefighters quickly located the source as roofing material being applied to the school's roof. The workers got the material too close to an intake vent, Tozzi said.

After investigating the material, Tozzi and firefighters determined it was not harmful, but very unpleasant, and a standard and safe process in the roofing business.

The female student who first reported the small was examined by EMS at the scene, and nobody was taken to the hospital.

Firefighters used fans to clear the smell from the building.
