The men are accused of shooting to death another man during a Route 29 chase in Trenton

TRENTON - Two Trenton men accused of gunning down a city man as they drove down Route 29 four years ago are going to trial.

Mercer County prosecutors confirmed that prosecutors and attorneys were starting jury selection this week for the upcoming trial of William Mitchell and Andre Romero.

The men are accused of firing shots from a car as they rode down Route 29 in January of 2012. They were aiming for Daquan Dowling, who was in another car on the same road, prosecutors have argued. Romero was firing from the back seat and Mitchell from a front passenger seat, ultimately hitting Dowling in the head and killing him, prosecutors have said.

Both cars spun out of control, with Dowling's car - driven by a friend who took over the wheel after he was shot - hitting a bridge. The car Mitchell and Romero spun out and ended up facing oncoming traffic. Mitchell, Romero and two other men in the car with them fled the scene, prosecutors have said.

Mercer County Assistant Prosecutor Jim Scott has said the slaying came after a dispute between Mitchell and Romano's friends and Dowling.
