2 Trenton Dollar General stores robbed in 2 days

An armed man walked into a Trenton Dollar General store, jumped on the counter, grabbed the clerk by the neck and emptied the safe and register of undisclosed amounts of cash.

TRENTON -- Authorities say that two Dollar General stores have been robbed in two days.

The first of the two robberies came on Saturday morning when an armed man reportedly walked in the store, jumped on the counter, grabbed the clerk by the neck and emptied the safe and register of undisclosed amounts of cash.

Police say that armed robbery occurred at 9:55 a.m.at the Dollar General located at 1242 Hamilton Avenue.

The suspect is described as being a 25- to 30-year-old man, standing 5-feet 8-inches tall and wearing a dark shirt, jeans and white sneakers, police said.

According to police, a witness who was shopping in the store followed the suspect out of the store and saw him fleeing on foot in the direction of Hobart Avenue.

Police say they have surveillance footage from the robbery that they are reviewing and that the investigation is ongoing.

Another robbery occurred Sunday morning at the Dollar General store located at 50 Calhoun Street by a man in a ski mask.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and more information will be released as details emerge.

Police did not say if they believe the two incidents are related.
