Shawn Lewis, 41, was charged with theft and criminal mischief
TRENTON -- A Trenton man is charged with cutting off the heads of a half-dozen city parking meters early Friday.
Shawn Lewis, 41, was charged with theft and criminal mischief.
Officers were detailed to East Hanover and Stockton streets around 2:44 a.m. after a caller saw a man stealing the parking meters off the poles, said Capt. Donald Fillinger.
They found Lewis in a nearby abandoned park on the corner of Merchant and Stockton streets. He pretended to be asleep, but lying on the ground were six damaged parking meters as well as a backpack with crowbars, hammers and other tools, Fillinger said.
