WEST WINDSOR -- Lifeguards pulled a 30-year-old man from the Canal Point neighborhood pool Wednesday night after he went under and did not resurface, police said.

The man was unresponsive and not breathing when lifeguards got the swimmer onto the pool's concrete deck and started CPR, police Lt. Robert Fow said. The man had a faint pulse.

Police officers, responding to a 6:50 p.m. call from the pool on Heritage Boulevard, arrived at the same time as an ambulance crew and assisted with CPR and medical treatment, Fow said.

The man was taken to a local hospital a short time later. His condition was unknown Thursday morning. Fow said the man has a Princeton mailing address.

Fow said a pool lifeguard later said she was watching the man swim back and forth in the pool underwater. When he did not surface, she went in after him.

Other lifeguards assisted in removing him from the pool and providing medical care, Fow said.

A woman who answered the phone Thursday at the Canal Pointe Condominium Association said nobody would be commenting on the incident.
