Police say the device was installed at the Investors Bank on Aug. 14 and removed two days later
MANSFIELD -- Mansfield police are investigating after an ATM skimming device designed to steal debit card information was found at a bank.
The device was found on an outside ATM of the Investors Bank in Homestead Plaza II on Columbus Road.
Police said their investigation showed the device was installed on Sunday, Aug. 14 and removed by the suspect two days later on Aug. 16.
Customers who used the ATM during that time are asked to monitor their bank statements and report any fraudulent ATM withdrawals to their bank and police.
The state's Department of Banking and Insurance advises people to take a look around when they approach an ATM to see if there are any strategically placed mirrors and brochure holders over their shoulder and examine the machine for anything that appears suspicious.
"These schemes can provide criminals with everything from the expiration date on your credit or debit card to information encoded on the back of its magnetic strip," the consumer alert reads. "This process allows them to recreate your card and gives them access to your accounts."
