Rufina Castro, 51, was found dead in the bedroom of her Ewing home
EWING -- Authorities are investigating a homicide after a 51-year-old woman was found dead in the bedroom of her Ewingville Road home Wednesday morning.
Ewing police found Rufina Castro just before 3 a.m. after receiving a call to perform a welfare check, the Mercer County Prosecutor's Office said.
Authorities say there was no forced entry and the preliminary investigation suggests the crime was related to a domestic dispute. A suspect is currently in police custody.
Property records list Castro and Roberto Miranda as the owners, but the home is in foreclosure, up for a sheriff's sale on Sept. 14.
On Wednesday afternoon, cop cars still sat outside and the property was sealed off with police tape. There were two yellow evidence markers on the driveway.
Neighbors who lived a few doors down said they didn't know the people who lived there personally, but occasionally saw a man mowing the grass or picking weeds. One said he sometimes saw a woman getting picked up or dropped off.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Mercer County Homicide Task Force at 609-989-6406 or Ewing police at 609-882-7530. Tips may also be left on the Trenton Crime Stoppers tip line at 609-278-8477 or texted to Trenton Crime Stoppers at 274637 in a message labeled TCSTIPS.
