A Mercer County spokesman said the pay hikes are consistent with what the majority of county employees are receiving in 2016.

TRENTON -- Mercer County's freeholder board is scheduled to vote on pay raises for themselves and seven county directors at it's Thursday meeting.

The proposed ordinance would raise salaries retroactively, effective Jan,. 1, 2016.

It's similar to one the freeholder board approved earlier this year, in February, that raised the same positions' salaries back to Jan. 1, 2015.

Mercer County spokesman Michael Boonin said this year's increases for directors are consistent with what the majority of represented Mercer County employees are receiving in 2016.

The ordinance lists the salary by position:

  • County Executive, $167,372
  • County Administrator, $163,209
  • Human Services Director, $141,859
  • Transportation and Infrastructure Director, $155,407
  • County Clerk $133,558
  • County Sheriff, $151,163
  • County Surrogate, $133,558
  • Freeholder Chair, $32,358
  • Freeholder, $30,358

The ordinance says the county administrator salary includes the 2015 and 2016 raises because, due to an administrative error, the 2015 raise was not accounted for.
