PRINCETON -- Harvard and Princeton battle each year for bragging rights on a number of top university rankings.
The town of Princeton, though, soundly topped Harvard's home Cambridge, Mass. address on a financial website's list Best College Towns to Live in, taking the number 1 spot.
Cambridge was named sixth best college town to live in on the smartassest.com rankings.
"Princeton and Harvard have the oldest rivalry in higher education," the site said. "Princeton ultimately edged Cambridge (which is also home to MIT) because of lower crime rates and higher discretionary income."

The site described Princeton the town as among the safest college towns in the country, with a violent crime rate second lowest among college towns and a property crime rate that is third lowest.
"With all the recognition poured on the university, it is easy to overlook the town in which it is located," the list said. "That would be a mistake."
The list did give potential Princeton residents one warning: "Despite its location between two of America's largest cities (New York and Philadelphia), Princeton is relatively affordable (although homebuyers should keep in mind the state of New Jersey's high property taxes)."
Princeton and Cambridge were the only East Coast towns to make the top 10.
