Freddy Gonzalez, 32, was one of the drivers involved in a crash that the officer was investigating
TRENTON -- A Trenton man is facing charges after he tried to punch a police officer who had responded to a motor vehicle crash on Saturday.
The crash occurred at around 11:50 p.m. at the intersection of Beatty Street and South Clinton Avenue.
As the officer was conducting his investigation, one of the drivers, 32-year-old Freddy Gonzalez, became angry and attempted to punch the officer with a closed fist, said Lt. Stephen Varn.
A struggle ensued before he was taken into custody.
Gonzalez was taken to Capital Health Regional Medical Center in Trenton to receive stitches above his right eye, Varn said.
He was charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, obstructing the administration of law, improper behavior, resisting arrest, disregarding marked lanes and being an unlicensed driver.
