Jon Cannon, 24, of Hamilton was arrested early Friday morning.

LAWRENCE -- The suspect charged with touching two Rider University students while they slept in their dorm rooms is a 24-year-old man from Hamilton, police said.

Jon Cannon was arrested early Friday morning. He is charged with criminal sexual contact for one of the incidents, and harassment/offensive touching for the second, as well as burglary and trespassing counts, police Lt. Joseph Amodio said.

Amodio said Saturday that detectives are still conducting search warrants in the case, which remains under investigation.

In July, Hamilton police officers arrested Cannon on burglary and attempted auto theft charges after spotting him sitting in a car at 2 a.m. on Whitehorse-Mercerville Road at West McGalliard Avenue. Police said Cannon tried to duck as the patrol car approached.

Hamilton police said in August they were investigating Cannon as a possible suspect in other break-ins in the White Horse area of the township. Cannon was initially held on $50,000 bail following that arrest.

RELATEDArrest made in sexual touching incidents in Rider dorms

Amodio said Cannon is charged with criminal sexual contact for allegedly touching a female student's breast as she slept in her dorm room Sept. 27, and offensive touching for a Sept. 11 incident in which he allegedly touched a sleeping student's shoulder.

Both students' dorm rooms were unlocked, and police are unsure how Cannon allegedly entered the dorm buildings. Cannon faces a burglary charge for each intrusion, Amodio said.

During each incident, the females woke up when touched and the male bolted from the room and the dorm.

The trespassing count is for a Sept. 26 incident in which Cannon allegedly entered a sorority on campus, but fled when spotted by a female and a male visitor, police said.

Rider's dean of students Anthony Campbell, in announcing the arrest to the Rider community via email late Friday, said the suspect was not a Rider student.

Cannon was being held on $130,000 bail Saturday.
