JOINT BASE MCGUIRE-DIX-LAKEHURST -- Soldiers will be firing live mortars and Howitzers during a week of artillery exercises at the base starting Friday July 22, the base announced.
The training, by the 1st Battalion of the 101st Field Artillery Regiment of the Massachusetts National Guard, is scheduled to end on July 29, the base said.
The firing of 155-millimeter mortars and the M119A3 Howitzer will take place during daylight and early evening hours.
During the training exercises, the joint base community and residents of the surrounding areas may experience moderate ground shaking and moderate noise coming from the base's ranges, the base said.
The noises may travel farther during overcast weather conditions.
The base routinely issues the advisories when artillery and demolitions training is scheduled. The base said in a statement that the training is essential for military readiness and base officials routinely work to minimize the impact it has on its surrounding communities.
