Firefighters arriving to the Genesee and Division streets intersection said flames were roaring from the building.

TRENTON -- Fire tore through a corner building at the intersection of Genesee and Division streets in Chambersburg Wednesday afternoon, gutting the building and injuring one firefighter,

City firefighters arriving to the intersection, and witnesses, said a considerable amount of flames were roaring from the building, a three-story brick building that appears to have once been a business.

Firefighters were dispatched at about 4:20 p.m.

Although firefighters were alerted to people possibly trapped, Deputy Chief Leonard Carmichael said firefighters did not find anyone in their searches.

Trenton Fire Department fire marshals, arson investigators and city police detectives were investigating the fire's cause Wednesday evening, Carmichael said.

Investigators, and fire companies, were still at the scene at 7:15 p.m. Wednesday.

Due to the heat, and the manpower needed for overhauling the building, Carmichael sounded a second alarm.

One firefighter suffered a leg injury and was taken to a local hospital from the cne, but Carmichael said he expected him to be released Wednesday night.

Information about the building's occupancy was not immediately available Wednesday.
