The mother of the toddler told police that she was crossing on the corner of Hancock and Lalor streets in Trenton's Souht Ward when a driver, later identified as Irwin Riley, 31, accelerated at a stop sign and struck her stroller, police spokesman Lt. Stephen Varn said.

The 3-year-old boy was taken to St. Francis Medical Center. An examination found he was uninjured and the boy was later released, Varn said.

Police arrested Riley on the 200 block of Hancock Street just before 10 p.m. that night. An investigation revealed he had active warrants for his arrest from Trenton and Lawrence as well, Varn said.

Riley is charged with drunk driving, careless driving, reckless driving, and driving as an unlicensed driver and driving on a suspended registration.
