Trenton resident Andre McCoy struggled with police until being taken into custody, where he spit at officers.

TRENTON -- A Trenton man is facing assault and resisting arrest charges after he tussled with officers responding to a domestic violence call, police said.

When officers arrived at the 200 block of Church Street for the domestic violence complaint, they were told the man left and took a child with him, police spokesman Lt. Stephen Varn said.

Officers located Andre McCoy, 34, and the child walking on Church Street toward Prospect Street, Varn said.

McCoy began yelling at officers and would not calm down, Varn said.

When officers told McCoy he was under arrest, he resisted until police took him into custody, Varn said. McCoy then spit at the patrol car partition, Varn said.

When officers took McCoy out of the car, he began to spit at them as well, Varn said.

Police said they called child protective services.

McCoy has been charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, improper behavior, obstructing the administration of law and resisting arrest.
