The referendum that would have funded significant additions and upgrades at the high school
MANSFIELD -- Voters in the Northern Burlington County Regional School District soundly rejected a $65 million bond referendum that would have funded significant additions and upgrades at the high school.
The two-part referendum posed two questions.

By a vote of 2,681 to 1,458, voters turned down a $53.9 million bond issue for the construction of an addition connecting the East and West buildings, classroom renovations, safety and security upgrades, capital improvement projects and a new 378-space parking lot.
The second question, which sought approval of $11.5 million for a new gym, was contingent on the passage of the first question, but residents also rejected it by a vote of 2,859 to 1,271.
The district serves students in grades 7 through 12 in Chesterfield, Mansfield, North Hanover, Springfield and Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst.
School officials had said now was the best time to go for a referendum because of lower construction costs and interest rates. State debt service aid totaling $15.5 million would have also been made available.
