The building includes offices for the state Supreme Court, Office of the Attorney General and the Office of the Public Defender
TRENTON - The Richard J. Hughes Justice Complex in Trenton was evacuated Wednesday due to a Freon leak at the building, which houses the state Supreme Court and other judicial offices.
"There has been a Freon leak in the Justice Complex," according to a statement issued by the state judiciary. "It has been contained, but readings are higher than acceptable levels."
State workers started receiving phone calls around 8 a.m. alerting them to the closure. The state judiciary sent a notice about the closure by email at 8:49 a.m.

"The building was evacuated, and fresh air is being brought into the building via the HVAC system," the statement said. "No one will be allowed in the building until cleared to do so by the Trenton Fire Department, the Department of Environmental Protection, and associated hazmat teams."
Court arguments have been postponed. The building, which has more than a million square feet of space, includes offices for the state Office of the Attorney General and the Office of the Public Defender.
