Rider to induct NBA player Thompson, 4 others into athletic hall of fame

Rider will induct Jason Thompson and four other athletes into the Athletic Hall of Fame Saturday.

LAWRENCE -- Rider University will induct five athletes into its Athletic Hall of Fame on Saturday night, including Toronto Raptors forward Jason Thompson, a 2008 graduate. the university said.

The former MAAC Player of the Year sits atop Rider mens basketball's leaderboard with 1,171 career rebounds and is third in points, with 2,040.

Thompson, the 12th player selected in the 2008 NBA draft, gave Rider a "significant and generous contribution" to a project that allowed the university to break ground on renovating Alumni Gymnasium.

The basketball court at the facility has been named after Thompson.

Other former Broncs who will be inducted are:

- Sarah Artale, class of 2003, a former women's soccer player who holds Rider records with 41 goals and 95 points.

- Baseball player Kevin Connolly, class of 1975, who was a 13th round selection of the Atlanta Braves, graduated as the program's leader in hits and RBIs. (Other players have since eclipsed those records.)

- Wrestler Don Fisch, class of 2008, was an all-American wrestler in 2007, finishing fifth at the NCAA Championships that year and finished his Bronc career with 110 wins.

- Soccer player Jim McKeown, class of 1981, took All-East Coast Conference and All-Region honors in 1977-78, and was a member of the US National under-19 team, before playing two years for the Tulsa Roughnecks and the Philadelphia Fury.
