The 2 women were treated for their injuries Thursday but only one was released from the hospital

PRINCETON -- Two women pedestrians who were struck by a vehicle in front of Princeton University Thursday morning are from Italy and attend a conference at the school, officials said Thursday.

Iolanda Del Prete, 30 and Donatella De Silva, 26, were visiting Princeton for an economics conference Thursday morning when they where struck by a car while crossing Nassau Street, police said.

The front part of the car, which was driven by Naila Sheikh, 52, of Lawrence, hit both women as they walked in the crosswalk around 8 a.m., police said.

Del Prete was taken to Capital Health Regional Medical Center with serious injuries and was still being treated Thursday afternoon.

De Silva was taken to University Medical Center of Princeton at Plainsboro with minor injuries and was released Thursday.

University spokesman Dan Day said he did not know whether the women were visiting from another campus but that they are neither students nor staff at Princeton University.
