A judge maintained Seth Bowers' $1 million bail in the fatal shooting case but revoked his bail in a separate robbery case

TRENTON -- A Trenton resident charged with killing a man in the Chambersburg neighborhood last week chased the victim before firing at least two shots, a Mercer County prosecutor said at a bail hearing Thursday.

Seth Bowers, 21, was charged with murder and weapons offenses after witnesses told police they saw him chase down and shoot Zaire Gibbs, 25, to death on Washington Street.

Bowers was out on bail at the time of the slaying, Assistant Prosecutor Kathleen Petrucci said.

Petrucci said an argument between the men turned violent last week and the two got into a physical fight. Four witnesses who were at the scene at the time told police Gibbs fled the scene and Bowers followed before firing at least two shots.

Gibbs was hit in the back and later died from his wounds at the hospital, prosecutors said.

Witnesses identified Bowers as the shooter. Police later searched his home, where they recovered a right Adidas sneaker matching a left shoe found at the scene of the crime.

Closing statements held in murder retrial

Petrucci said Bowers was out on bail at the time following a December robbery.

Police have alleged Bowers pretended to be a police officer, showed a gun and stole money from a man on the street in Trenton.

Bowers has a prior history that would suggest he will not comply with the conditions of bail, Superior Court Judge Pedro Jimenez said.

That history included a juvenile record and multiple warrants.

Jimenez revoked Bowers' bail in his robbery case and maintained his $1 million bail in the shooting case Thursday, saying that no amount of money could ensure Bowers' appearance in court.
