Operation Homefront sponsored a Star-Spangled Baby Shower at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst.

JOINT BASE MCGUIRE-DIX-LAKEHURST -- Keeping a year-round tradition of helping military families, Operation Homefront sponsored a Star-Spangled Baby Shower at Joint Base MDL Wednesday for new and expectant moms.

Approximately 50 families were treated to a buffet lunch and plenty of giveaways from the organization and vendors including Delta Children's Products, non-profit First Candle and US Family Health Plan.

Empire Beauty Schools' Bordentown Campus provided onsite services for moms, such as manicures and facials, as well as career opportunities.

"I think it's awesome that people give back to us. I feel so grateful," expectant mom Steehly Delauretis, of Easton Pa., whose "baby bump" was testing the limits of her Navy uniform. "I'm just shocked with the amount of stuff here."

Joe Shamie, president of Delta Children's Products said the project is "all about giving back - taking care of the families that take care of our families."

Operation Homefron's next event at Joint Base MDL will be a back-to-school event in August.

"Women whose loved ones are far away really enjoy the caring and supportive environment; we make them feel special." said Stephen Thomas, Operation Homefront's regional spokesman.
