Jennifer Ivanisik, 39, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, defiant trespass and resisting arrest after she smacked a police officer trying to remove her from St. Francis Medical Center shortly before 3 a.m. Tuesday, Lt. Stephen Varn said.

Ivanisik was asked to leave the emergency room by a doctor because she was disruptive, screaming obscenities at nurses and loudly complaining about not getting the pain killers she requested, Varn said.

Ivanisik returne to the waiting room and started cursing at the staff, Varn said.

She refused to leave the hospital when she was asked. As an off-duty officer working an authorized assignment at the hospital guided her back out of the hospital, Ivanisik swung at her with an open fist, striking the officer in the face, Varn said.

There was a brief struggle before Ivanisik was arrested, Varn said.
