Ewing High School senior Alex Martinez was fatally struck by a CSX train Friday night
EWING -- The death of a Ewing teenager who was struck and killed by a CSX train Friday night has been ruled an accident, authorities said.
The Mercer County medical examiner's office ruled 18-year-old Alex Martinez's death accidental after an autopsy Monday.
Martinez was on the railroad tracks on the Ewing side of the Lower Ferry Road Bridge when he was fatally struck around 6:10 p.m. Friday.
The train, consisting of two locomotives and 28 rail cars, was traveling south to Philadelphia from Kearny, CSX spokesman Rob Doolittle said. It eventually came to a stop in Lower Makefield Township, Pa.
"CSX's sympathies are with those affected by this tragedy," Doolittle said.
The accident remains under investigation.
Grief counseling was available to students and the community on Monday.
