Shaheed Brown is awaiting his verdict for a second time in a murder case that accuses him of shooting Enrico Smalley to death in 2014
TRENTON - The second murder trial for Shaheed Brown, accused of shooting a man to death on a crowded Trenton street two years ago, is coming to a close.
Closing arguments were held Tuesday and the jury adjourned to - once again - decide Brown's fate.
This will be the second time for Brown since his first trial ended in a hung jury in the fall.
Brown is accused of shooting 20-year-old Enrico Smalley to death outside of a bar on Poplar Street and North Clinton Avenue in the summer of 2014.
He left Trenton shortly after Smalley's death and was arrested a month later in Newark.
He had changed his appearance after leaving Trenton by cutting off his dreadlocks, Mercer County Prosecutors have noted.
Teen could be tried as adult in shooting death
His second trial started two weeks ago with opening statements from Assistant Prosecutor Brian McCauley, who said there was, "no smoking gun" in the case - but that he believed video surveillance provided investigators with mounds of evidence just before and after the shooting.
Last week a, State Police Detective Joseph Itri added to that evidence when he testified about a 911 call that he said "shocked" him. In the call, a person tells police he just saw a man with dreadlocks standing over another person, shooting at them repeatedly.
The jury stayed did not come back Tuesday afternoon and deliberations are expected to continue Tuesday.
