The man told police five men attacked him at a bar.

TRENTON -- A city man was left with a piece of metal lodged in his skull Sunday after being attacked by five people, police said.

The man, 27, told police he was at a bar where five men attacked him, Trenton Police Lt. Stephen Varn said.

It wasn't clear which bar he meant, Varn said. A friend with a car picked him up and drove him to Ward Avenue, where police spotted them.

He was taken to Capital Health Regional Medical Center. Doctors there removed a small piece of metal from his skull and closed wounds to his head, chest and back with staples and sutures, Varn said.

The man was in stable condition and expected to survive, Varn said.

Police are investigating the attack.
