Lawrence Township is accepting applications through May 11 for its 2016-17 lottery for low-income families to send their 4-year-old children to preschool.
LAWRENCE -- Lawrence public schools are currently accepting applications from low-income families to be entered into their lottery for its 4-year-old preschool for the 2016-2017 school year.
The district said students will be selected randomly for openings at programs at Benjamin Franklin Elementary, Lawrenceville Elementary and Slackwood Elementary. There will be 18 children per class.
"This is a comprehensive program that services typically developing, low income and special needs 4-year-old children," the district said in an announcement.
The district said to be eligible, the student must be toilet trained and at least 4 years old and not older than 5.
"Special needs students will be placed in the program by identification, evaluation and eligibility procedures as outlined in the New Jersey Administrative Code," the district said.
Transportation will also be provided for low-income students - as determined by a family's qualification into the free or reduced lunch program to be issued in July, the district said.
The lottery applications can be obtained at the board of education office at 2565 Princeton Pike, Ben Franklin Elementary at 2939 Princeton Pike, the Lawrenceville Elementary at 40 Craven Lane and Slackwood Elementary at 2060 Princeton Pike.
Applications are also available on the Lawrence public schools' website. Applications must be submitted by May 11.
All preschool classes meet Monday through Friday. Ben Franklin classes run 9:30 a.m. - 3:20 p.m., Lawrenceville from 8:30 a.m. - 2:20 p.m. and Slackwood from 8:00 a.m. - 1:50 p.m.
