Police responded to a report of a shooting on Market Street Sunday, but found no evidence that there was one

TRENTON - Police responded to a report of a shooting on Market Street Sunday night, but found no gun and no evidence an shooting occurred, police said Monday.

Police were called to the 300 block of Market Street around 9:30 p.m. for a reported shooting in progress. Officers found two men fighting and an injured woman, but no gun and no shell casings in the area, Lt. James Slack said.

Willie Kirkman, 72, was walking on the 300 Market Street while a 53-year-old man and a woman, 30, were sitting on a porch. The three started arguing, which turned into a fight, Slack said.

During the fight, the man saw a shiny object in Kirkman's hand and thought he heard a gunshot. Police found no evidence of either, Slack said.

Trenton police investigate multiple shooting on Market Street

Both the man and the woman were taken to Capital Health Regional Medical Center in Trenton, where they were treated for minor injuries, Slack said.

The Shooting response team is investigating, Slack said.
