Hamilton fire departments responded to an early morning blaze behind Grove Wine and Spirits
HAMILTON -- Firefighters responded Sunday to an early morning garage fire behind The Grove Wine and Spirits in Hamilton, officials said.
Groveville Fire Company Chief Mark Antozzeski said District 9 responded to the fire at the business, 6971 Route 156, around 6:30 a.m.
"When we first arrived there was heavy fire showing," Antozzeski said. The blaze was in an outdoor garage unit separate from the liquor store.
He said no one was at the store when firefighters responded to the blaze.
On Sunday afternoon, The Grove Wine and Spirits manager confirmed no one was there at the time of the fire. He said the garage is used for storage but declined to comment further.
Antozzeski said additional fire companies were called to the scene after District 9 arrived. Hamilton fire Districts 6, 3, 5 and 7 responded along with fire departments from Bordertown and Robbinsville.
He said the fire was placed under control around 7:30 a.m.
"The companies worked well together," Antozzeski said. "The fire was extinguished quickly."
Antozzeski said the fire left little structural damage and the cause is under investigation by District 9 Fire Marshall Michael Danbury.
On Sunday afternoon, it appeared the right side of the garage unit suffered the most damage.
