A fire was reported April 10, 2016, at a West Amwell farm once owned by the founder of Fox Film Corporation.
WEST AMWELL - A two-alarm fire was reported Sunday morning at a historic farm once owned by William Fox, founder of Fox Film Corporation and later owned by the author of "Deathwish," according to police.
The fire at Brookmill Farm, located on Mill Road just outside Lambertville, was first reported shortly after 6 a.m. Police could not provide further details. The farm, which dates to 1794, is today a wedding and event venue, according to its website.
William Fox, who founded Fox Film Corporation, owned the property as a retreat for his family. Fox lost control of his movie empire in 1930, but his name remains linked to the diverse media companies now controlled by Rupert Murdoch, including 20th Century Fox, Fox News Channel and the Fox network.
The farm was later owned by "Deathwish" author Brian Garfield, according to the website. The book would be adapted into a movie of the same name starring Charles Bronson and spawn four sequels. According to the website, Garfield "wrote the book while he owned Brookmill Farm and mailed the draft from the property."
Brookmill Farm can host up to 400 people at events with overnight accommodations for up to 20 in a main house and a guest cottage. It also includes a pool, mill house and fire pit, according to the web site.
