Abdul Malik Shabazz was arrested in Rochester, N.Y., but brought back to Trenton to face aggravated assault charges
TRENTON - A Trenton man was arrested in Rochester, N.Y., and extradited to face assault and weapons charges here in connection with a February shooting, police said Tuesday.
Abdul Malik Shabazz, 52, was brought to Trenton Tuesday to face aggravated assault, stalking and weapons offenses for taking several shots at his girlfriend's car on February 17, Lt. Stephen Varn said.
Trenton police were called to the first block of Passaic Street for a report of gunfire. A 45-year-old woman was in her car when she noticed her ex-boyfriend, Shabazz, in his car. Shabazz pulled parallel with the woman's car and opened fire, hitting her car under the driver's headlight and wheel well, Varn said.
An investigation by Patrolwoman Tara Dzerkoc led to a warrant for Shabazz' arrest. Officers drove to the Monroe, N.Y., County jail, where Shabazz was being held, and bought him to Trenton to face the charges.
It was not immediately known why Shabazz was in the New York jail, Varn said.
