Public Service Gas & Electric did not know what knocked out power to several New Jersey state government buildings in downtown Trenton Monday morning
TRENTON - Electricity to the New Jersey Statehouse and about 600 other customers of Public Service Gas & Electric was knocked out Monday morning, causing at least one state department to evacuate its downtown Trenton building.
PSE&G Monday afternoon blamed 10:15 a.m. outage on an equipment failure Monument Breaker Station in downtown Trenton.
A company spokeswoman said power to most of those affected was back on about a hour later, but some remained without electricity, according to Brooke Houston, the spokeswoman.
"We're working to restore all customers now,'' Houston said.
The cause of the outage is under investigation, Houston said.
Houston did not say how many customers were still without power, but the PSE&G outage map put the number around 400 shortly by 1:00 p.m.
The New Jersey Department of Labor around 11:30 a.m. evacuated its building at 1 John Fitz Plaza because of the outage.
NJ Labor Dept has been evacuated b/c of a widespread Trenton power outage. Please stay tuned for further updates
