The Witherspoon Street Subway is the second Princeton-area Subway restaurant to shut its doors this year

PRINCETON - The last of Princeton's downtown Subway restaurants closed this month and as early as Monday, movers were taking supplies out of the Witherspoon Street building.

A regional pizza chain plans to move into the area, according to their Facebook page.

Jules Thin Crust Pizza, which is based in Doylestown, PA. and calls itself a, "fast casual restaurant," on its website, announced on their Facebook page Monday that they will be opening their 10th location in Princeton in the beginning of the summer.

They did not say where the location would be but in January, the pizza joint made a similar announcement. Two months ago, they linked to a Princeton Packet article on Facebook and confirmed plans to open up a shop at Subway's location on 18 Witherspoon Street this year.

Subway leaves Nassau Street location

At that time, Subway's owners said they did not know the business was heading out of town.

Representatives from Jules Pizza did not immediately respond to a request for comment Tuesday.

The Subway on 18 Witherspoon Street, which now has paper covering its windows and closed signs facing the street, is the second of its kind to shut down in Princeton in the past year.

A Subway shop on Nassau Street closed last summer after just three years in Princeton. The one on Witherspoon has been at the site since the mid-2000's.
