The suspect, a male, was taken into custody Tuesday evening at a location in Beverly, in Burlington County.

HAMILTON -- A third Burlington County resident has been implicated in the murder of convicted killer Michael "Mickey Rome" DiMattia, who was shot dead in his apartment last week.

The suspect, a male, was taken into custody Tuesday evening at a location in Beverly, a law enforcement source confirmed. The suspect was not immediately identified by authorities.

Earlier Tuesday, the Mercer County Prosecutor's Office announced a man and woman have been charged with killing DiMattia, who was shot twice in his Estates Boulevard apartment on March 17.

Marcus L. Muse, 24, of Willingboro, and Tatiana S. Cole, also 24, of Pemberton, were arrested Monday evening at a Mount Laurel by members of a U.S. Marshals' task force and the Mercer County Homicide Task Force.

Prosecutors allege Muse and Cole went to DiMattia's to rob him and made off with $18,000 cash. Hamilton police responding to a 911 call at the apartment found DiMattia dead of gunshot wounds.

During the Muse and Cole arrests, detectives found a gun inside their hotel room consistent with the weapon used in the murder, the prosecutor's office said.

Muse and Cole are each charged with murder, felony murder, robbery, and weapons offenses.

2 charged with murder in slaying of convicted killer

It was unclear Tuesday night what role the third suspect allegedly played in the slaying.

DiMattia was once a multi-sport star at the former McCorristin High School, but his adult life has been one of gun crimes, prison time and drug use.

He pleaded guilty in 1990 to manslaughter in the 1988 Trenton shooting death of James Howard, 17, and was sentenced to 10 years in prison but served less than three.

Over the years DiMattia has had numerous run-ins with the law, including four 1998 weapons convictions.

And he was charged in 2009 with federal firearms possession and sentenced to 3 1/2 years in prison, with 3 years of supervised release.

Following his federal time, he violated the terms of his release repeatedly by getting arrested or failing drug tests.

During the 2009 arrest, in which police found him with three handguns, DiMattia was wearing body armor and told arresting officers he feared for his life due to the Howard killing.
